Weekends, Atlanta’s legendary gay nightclub in Midtown, rose to prominence in the late 1970s and flourished through the 1980s, turning a former music venue into the central dance destination for queer and alternative crowds. Known for its eclectic energy, it became a springboard for drag luminaries like RuPaul and Lady Bunny, who found their footing there before dazzling national audiences.
The club was a vibrant mix of musical styles, drawing in punks, disco lovers, leather enthusiasts, and everyone in between—and sometimes famous faces, too—on weekend nights that pulsed until sunrise. Patrons recall long lines and strict door policies that only added to its allure.
Weekends wasn’t just a club—it was a catalyst: a place where Atlanta’s gay scene exploded into life and spilled into the city's broader cultural rhythm.
