Venture-N – Houston T-Shirt
Opened: 1975 • Closed: 2002
In the wild frontier years of Houston’s queer nightlife, Venture-N was one of Montrose’s original big players — a gay bar that opened in 1975, just as the neighborhood was becoming the city’s LGBTQ hub, and stayed true through the heady years of disco, the AIDS crisis, and the rise of citywide Pride culture.
Across its nearly three decades on 2923 Main Street, Venture-N gave Houston a place to dance, flirt, laugh, and belong long before apps, hashtags, and corporate Pride made queer spaces polished or profitable. Some nights were piano bar slow and soulful; others were loud, sweaty, and unrehearsed. Either way, the room pulsed with a crowd who showed up because this was their place — a true neighborhood bar that became part of a city’s growing queer identity.
