Premiering in 1983, V was a sci-fi miniseries that combined alien invasion with razor-sharp political commentary. On the surface, it told the story of seemingly friendly extraterrestrials who arrive on Earth offering peace, only to slowly reveal a fascist agenda. But under the campy effects and iconic red uniforms, V was a chilling allegory for authoritarianism, propaganda, and resistance—mirroring the rise of fascism in 20th-century history.
Created by Kenneth Johnson, V wasn’t just alien drama—it was resistance fantasy, complete with secret rebellions, human collaborators, and chilling visuals like swastika-like logos and mind control broadcasts. It spawned sequels, a short-lived TV series, and a dedicated cult following.
With its bold messaging, synth-heavy score, and lizard-people reveals, V became an unforgettable piece of Reagan-era television—one that still resonates in a world where power, media, and truth remain under constant negotiation.
