The Electric Factory – Philadelphia, PA (1968–2018)
Founded in 1968 by Larry Magid and partners, the original Electric Factory operated at 22nd & Arch Streets, bringing the psychedelic explosion of the late ’60s straight into Philadelphia. The Grateful Dead. Jimi Hendrix. Janis Joplin. The Who. If you were on the circuit, you played the Factory.
By the mid-’70s, the original run ended — but the name never died.
In 1995, The Electric Factory was reborn at 7th & Willow Streets, in a massive converted warehouse space in Callowhill. For over two decades (1995–2018 under that name), it became Philly’s definitive mid-size concert venue — loud, sweaty, industrial, unforgettable.
