Pulled straight from the golden age of mall kiosks and mail-order catalogs, the Dr. Zaius design recalls the era when vintage iron-on transfers turned pop culture into personal uniform. Based on Planet of the Apes, the image of Dr. Zaius—part scientist, part priest, part authoritarian gatekeeper—became one of the franchise’s most enduring faces.
Iron-on graphics were rough by nature: thick inks, limited color, slightly off registration, and edges that cracked with wear. That texture is the point. It places the image firmly in the late ’60s–’70s moment when sci-fi paranoia, counterculture anxiety, and dystopian storytelling overlapped—and when kids and fans literally heat-pressed their obsessions onto blank tees at home.
