Tonya Harding — Vintage Rock Tee
Before the tabloids turned her into a punchline, Tonya Harding was one of the most powerful and technically fearless figure skaters in the world.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Harding rose through U.S. skating with a style that felt very different from the sport’s traditional ice-princess image. She was athletic, aggressive, working-class, and impossible to ignore. In 1991, she became the first American woman to land a triple axel in competition, a feat that immediately secured her place in skating history.
Then came 1994.
The attack on Nancy Kerrigan and the media frenzy that followed transformed Harding from athlete into one of the most notorious figures of the decade. Courtrooms, tabloid covers, television specials, and endless speculation swallowed the skating career whole, creating an image that has remained lodged in pop culture ever since.
