The Palms (1965–2013) was never trying to be temporary. Opening in the mid-1960s—when lesbian bars were often raided, surveilled, or forced underground—The Palms became a rare constant in West Hollywood, lasting nearly five decades against the odds.
It was a bar, a meeting place, a refuge, and a community bulletin board all at once. Through feminism, liberation, backlash, loss, and renewal, The Palms remained a place where women showed up for each other night after night. Not flashy. Not apologetic. Just there—when it mattered most.
