The Moose Lounge — Allentown, PA
Upstairs from Stonewall Gay Club, The Moose Lounge was where the night softened without losing its edge. If Stonewall was movement—lights, bodies, music—The Moose was the counterpoint: a piano, a drink in hand, and a room close enough to hear yourself sing.
Stonewall anchored the Lehigh Valley scene for decades, opening in 1972 and becoming one of Pennsylvania’s longest-running LGBTQ bars—a place that carried generations through first nights out, last calls, and everything in between.
And just above it, The Moose Lounge offered a different rhythm. Less spectacle, more atmosphere. Regulars circling the piano, impromptu choruses, bartenders who knew exactly when to top you off. It felt tucked away, but never separate—just a floor above, where the energy shifted from loud to lived-in.
