The Locker Room — Atlanta, GA (1970s–1980s)
Part of the Cheshire Bridge Road corridor, The Locker Room sat right in the middle of one of Atlanta’s most important LGBTQ+ nightlife strips. Operating as a combined health club, bathhouse, and disco, it reflected how spaces in the ’70s and ’80s often blended social, physical, and nightlife elements into one place.
It wasn’t just a single-purpose venue. By day and night, it functioned as a gathering point—drawing a mix of locals and visitors into a space that could shift from low-key to high-energy depending on the hour. That flexibility made it part of the rhythm of the scene, especially in an area that became synonymous with Atlanta’s growing queer visibility.
The Cheshire Bridge strip itself gave it context—multiple bars, clubs, and venues within reach, creating a network rather than a standalone destination.
