The Diamond Bar was a cornerstone of Omaha's LGBTQ+ community, recognized as the oldest gay bar in Nebraska. Established in the 1950s, it served as a welcoming space for generations of patrons until its closure in the early 2000s.
Originally located in the Aquila Court Building across from the downtown fire station, the bar relocated one block south to 712 South 16th Street when the original building was converted into a hotel. Despite pressures from city development projects, including the expansion of the county jail, owner Cindy steadfastly maintained the bar's presence until its eventual closure.
The Diamond Bar was known for its unpretentious, neighborhood atmosphere—featuring simple furnishings, pool tables, and a loyal clientele that included both blue-collar and white-collar workers. It opened early at 7:00 AM to accommodate night-shift workers and hosted community holiday meals for those without family gatherings.
A commemorative brick from the bar's original building, adorned with sequins and gold stars, symbolizes its enduring legacy and is preserved in the Queer Omaha Archives at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
