The Brig (San Francisco Gay Leather Bar/70's and 80's/For Leathermen)

The Brig was a notable gay leather bar located in San Francisco's South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood. It operated from 1978 until 1985, during a period when SoMa was a central hub for the city's leather subculture. The Brig was situated in the area now known as the Leather and LGBTQ Cultural District, which commemorates the rich history of LGBTQ+ spaces in San Francisco.

Following its closure, the venue underwent several transformations. In the late 1980s, it became The Powerhouse, a bar that continues to serve the LGBTQ+ community today. The Powerhouse is known for its themed events and has become a staple in the SoMa nightlife scene.
