The Boom Boom Room in Laguna Beach, California, began operating under that name in 1977, transforming the original cocktail lounge and dining room of the Coast Inn into a nightclub and disco. It was sold to Sidney Bryan in 1978 and gradually became a prominent gathering place for the LGBTQ+ community.
The venue closed its doors permanently on September 3, 2007, after the property was sold and redevelopment plans were set in motion.
The Boom Boom Room holds a significant place in LGBTQ+ history as one of the oldest gay bars in the western United States. It served as a vibrant social hub, especially during the 1970s and 1980s, and was known for its inclusive atmosphere and community events.
