Talbott Street — Indianapolis, IN (1980–2016)

For more than 35 years, Talbott Street stood at the center of Indianapolis LGBTQ+ nightlife—a large, high-energy club that became both a destination and a community institution. Opening in 1980, it evolved alongside generations of queer life in the city, remaining one of the Midwest’s most recognizable gay venues until its closure in 2016.

Known for its expansive dance floor, drag performances, DJs, and themed nights, Talbott Street balanced nightclub spectacle with a deeply loyal regular crowd. It welcomed everyone from longtime locals to first-time visitors, creating a space that felt both celebratory and familiar.

Over the decades, the club became especially known for its drag culture and entertainment programming, helping establish Indianapolis as a stronger regional nightlife destination than many outsiders expected. For many patrons, major life moments—friendships, relationships, celebrations—were tied directly to nights spent there.

By the time it closed in 2016, Talbott Street represented far more than a bar. It marked the end of one of the longest-running and most influential LGBTQ+ gathering spaces in Indiana history.
