STUDZ — Orlando, Florida Gay Leather, Levi's & Bear Bar Tee

Located at 1300 North Mills Avenue, STUDZ was part of Orlando's old-school gay nightlife, catering to men who preferred leather, denim, boots, and a little body hair to the polished atmosphere of mainstream dance clubs.

The address had a history of its own. Over the years, the location was home to several establishments, including the Silver Hammer, Cactus Club, Club Swank, STUDZ, and Paradise. It was part of a changing neighborhood nightlife scene that offered something distinctly different from Orlando's famous theme parks.

And the look was unmistakable. Tight 501s, leather jackets, work boots, harnesses, beards, and a respectable amount of chest hair. The leather and Levi's crowd had its own style, traditions, and ideas about what made a man attractive.

By the 1990s and 2000s, bear culture had become an increasingly visible part of gay life, embracing bigger bodies, facial hair, rugged masculinity, and the idea that not every gay man needed to look like an underwear model.
