During the Start Me Up era — driven by the Stones’ massive 1981/82 hit single from the Tattoo You album — a striking tour and promo graphic was created by Andrew Keith Slayton featuring guitarist Keith Richards in his element: cigarette lit, guitar slung low, embodying rock ’n’ roll swagger and survival-born cool. This artwork was so closely linked to the band’s image that Richards himself wore versions of these shirts on and off stage.
