Sporter's was a seminal gay bar located at 228 Cambridge Street in Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood. Established in 1939, it became an officially recognized gay bar in 1957, serving as a vital gathering space for the city's LGBTQ+ community.

The bar's unmarked façade and windowless exterior provided a discreet environment for patrons during a time when homosexuality was criminalized and heavily policed. Despite frequent police raids, Sporter's remained a cornerstone of Boston's gay nightlife for nearly four decades.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Sporter's was a popular spot for a diverse clientele, including Harvard professors, students, and members of the counterculture. The bar closed its doors in 1995, but its legacy endures as a symbol of resilience and community for Boston's LGBTQ+ history.
