Smart Bar (Cleveland Gay Bar/80's and 90's/Smart Bar Cleveland)

The Smart Bar was a notable LGBTQ+ venue located at 1575 Merwin Avenue in Cleveland's Flats district. It operated during the late 1980s and early 1990s, a period when the area was a vibrant hub for nightlife and the LGBTQ+ community. The venue was part of a trio of clubs that included Aquilon and The Lift, all situated within the same building. These interconnected spaces hosted a variety of events, from dance nights to drag shows, and were instrumental in fostering a sense of community and expression during a pivotal time in Cleveland's LGBTQ+ history.
