Pegasus Lounge opened in June 1980 in the basement of the Baum Building on Liberty Avenue, quickly becoming Pittsburgh’s most visible gay club and a major cultural hub. Over nearly three decades, it evolved into a dynamic space with a cocktail lounge upstairs, a pulsing dance floor downstairs, regular drag shows, community fundraisers, and vital AIDS activism—like hosting early testing and outreach. In 2009, it moved to the North Side, and by 2012 the doors sadly closed for good.
