Outcast (Los Angeles) — 1970s–1980s

A key stop on L.A.’s historic leather and motorcycle bar circuit, Outcast was a no-frills, hard-edged gay bar that catered to the city’s leather men, bikers, and cruisers during the post-Stonewall years. Operating through the 1970s and into the 1980s, it was part of a network of bars where denim, boots, chains, and code spoke louder than signage.

Outcast belonged to a time when queer subcultures carved out their own territories in industrial blocks and side streets, building community around shared identity, desire, and defiance. These were spaces that offered both refuge and rebellion, long before leather culture was visible or accepted in the mainstream.
