Our Fantasy — Wichita, KS (1980–2005)
For 25 years, Our Fantasy served as one of Wichita’s central LGBTQ+ gathering places—a rare mixed gay and lesbian club that welcomed a broad cross-section of the community under one roof. Opening in 1980 and lasting until 2005, it became a constant in a city where queer spaces were often limited and deeply important.
The club balanced dance floor energy with a strong neighborhood feel. Music, DJs, themed nights, and familiar regulars gave it a social atmosphere that felt accessible rather than exclusive. It was the kind of place where friendships formed, communities overlapped, and people kept coming back decade after decade.
Unlike many venues that catered to a narrower crowd, Our Fantasy became known for bringing different parts of the LGBTQ+ community together—creating a space that felt shared, lived-in, and welcoming.
By the time it closed in 2005, it had become part of Wichita’s queer foundation, remembered not just as a club, but as a long-running community institution.
