Olde English 800 — Replica Promo Tee (1970s–Early 1980s)
Introduced in 1964 by the Blitz-Weinhard Brewing Company (later acquired by Miller), Olde English became one of the defining American malt liquors of the 1970s and early ’80s. High gravity. Bold label. Gold shield. Blackletter type that looked like it came straight out of a medieval tavern — reimagined for inner-city billboards and corner refrigerators.
By the late ’70s, OE 800 wasn’t just a drink — it was iconography. The gold-and-black crest, the Olde English gothic lettering, the heavy glass 40 oz bottle. You saw it in hip-hop’s earliest visuals, in breakdancing circles, in low-budget music videos, in backyard cookouts and front-stoop summers.
