Long before modern political graphics, the snake was used in art and propaganda to represent corruption, tyranny, treachery, and forces considered dangerous to society. The clenched hand turns that symbolism into action: evil isn't merely identified—it is stopped.
That visual language would become especially potent during the rise of fascism in Europe. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, anti-fascist posters, labor graphics, resistance publications, and wartime propaganda frequently relied on similarly blunt imagery: fists, crushed swastikas, broken chains, defeated monsters, and strangled serpents. There was little interest in subtle branding when the subject was dictatorship.
