Metro City Bar & Grill — San Francisco, CA (1981–2007)
Few bars occupied a more enviable corner of the Castro than Metro.
Perched above the intersection of Market, Noe, and 16th Streets, Metro City Bar & Grill offered one of the neighborhood's best vantage points. Its spacious upstairs layout and wraparound balcony gave patrons a front-row seat to Castro life unfolding below—a perfect place to share a drink, catch up with friends, and watch the neighborhood go by.
The space itself had a long history before becoming Metro, operating under names including Caracole, Outlook, and the Corner Zoo. But its defining chapter began in 1981 when partners in business and life, Richard Pearson and Mario Enriquez, purchased the bar and renamed it Metro.
For the next 26 years, Metro became a Castro institution.
