Jackie Curtis — Vain Victory Poster 

A reprint of the original poster artwork for Jackie Curtis’ downtown stage production Vain Victory, first performed in the early 1970s in New York’s underground theater scene. Curtis — playwright, performer, and Warhol collaborator — became a defining figure of gender-bending performance long before the language to describe it was widely used.

Vain Victory brought together drag, poetry, rock-and-roll attitude, and outsider glamour, featuring an ensemble that included fellow downtown icons, musicians, and emerging queer performers. The poster’s typography and layout reflect the DIY aesthetic of Off-Off-Broadway promotion: hand-assembled, raw, and unmistakably tied to the East Village art world of the period.
