Pulled from an original 1970s Harley riders shirt, HOGS ARE BEAUTIFUL comes from a time when motorcycle graphics were loud, crude, affectionate, and rarely interested in explaining themselves.
“Hog” had already become a familiar nickname for a Harley-Davidson, tied to the bikes’ size, sound, and unmistakable presence. On an old riders tee, the phrase was simple biker pride: the machines were heavy, greasy, temperamental, and beautiful precisely because of it.
Taken out of its original setting, the slogan becomes a little more generous. It can still be about motorcycles, but it can also read as a defense of excess, appetite, bulk, masculinity, or anyone who has ever been told they take up too much space.
That double meaning gives the design its charm. What began as a proud 1970s biker slogan now lands somewhere between sincere tribute, body-positive declaration, and very old dirty joke.
