Hoedowns — Atlanta, Georgia (1990s–2000s)
Boots, denim, and a packed dance floor—Hoedowns brought a distinctly Southern twist to Atlanta’s gay nightlife. Opening in the 1990s (formally Deana's One Mo' Time), the bar quickly became one of the city’s most popular country-western gay clubs, where two-stepping, line dancing, and a little bit of attitude defined the night.
Set apart from the typical dance clubs, Hoedowns embraced a full-on country-western vibe—from the music to the crowd. Regulars showed up in cowboy hats and boots, while DJs mixed country classics with high-energy dance tracks that kept the floor moving well into the night. Whether you were a seasoned dancer or just learning the steps, the atmosphere was welcoming, lively, and always a little rowdy in the best way.
Throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s, Hoedowns remained a staple of Atlanta’s LGBTQ scene, offering something different from the city’s circuit parties and house music clubs. It was a place where Southern culture and gay nightlife came together—equal parts honky-tonk and dance club.
