Opening its doors on St. Patrick’s Day 1979, Flikkers wasn’t just a queer club—it was Ireland’s first electrifying sanctuary for LGBTQ+ nightlife. Hosted in the Hirschfeld Centre on Fownes Street, this underground disco became the beating heart of the community, fueling everything from cafés and film screenings to drag, activism, and a library of vinyl.
DJs spun early house and disco tracks that couldn’t be heard anywhere else, and the club founded the social and cultural fabric of queer Ireland through five unforgettable Halloween Balls and all-night dance marathons. Then tragedy struck: in 1987, a fire destroyed the centre, ending Flikkers’ reign—but not its legacy.
I use Bella + Canvas 3001 Unisex tees for all of my designs. They are a soft and light cotton. If you love another brand, please let me know and I can see if I can source it. I can also do my designs on tanks, long sleeve tees, sweatshirts, hoodies and posters. Just reach out with any custom requests and I'll gladly help you out. I do like large prints, but if you want the design scaled down, please contact me before placing an order and I can send you some mock ups.
