Opened in 1983 by Sue Hannah, Faces became one of Orlando’s most important and enduring lesbian clubs—a dedicated women’s space that served Central Florida’s LGBTQ+ community for nearly a quarter century.
Set inside a converted house rather than a traditional nightclub, Faces developed a warm, lived-in atmosphere that regulars still remember vividly. Couches, conversation, dancing, themed nights, and familiar faces gave the club a deeply personal feeling—more community space than commercial venue.
Under Hannah’s leadership, Faces grew into far more than a nightlife spot. It became a social anchor for generations of women in Orlando and beyond, offering visibility, connection, and continuity during a period when dedicated lesbian spaces were both culturally vital and increasingly rare.
The club balanced celebration with community in a way that defined many beloved lesbian bars of the era. For many patrons, Faces wasn’t simply somewhere to go—it was somewhere to belong.
When it closed in 2007, it marked the end of one of the longest-running lesbian clubs in the region and the loss of a space that had quietly held community together for decades.
