Part of Denver’s post-Stonewall nightlife and sex-positive landscape, Empire Baths was one of the city’s best-known gay bathhouses during the late 1970s and early 1980s. At a time when queer spaces in the Mountain West were few and closely watched, it offered something rare: privacy, connection, and community beyond the bar scene. The location eventually became Denver Swim Club.
