By the late ’80s and into the ’90s, they re-emerged in a completely new context—covering rock and pop songs with acoustic guitars, dressed in coordinated outfits, and delivering everything with a straight face that made it all the more surreal. Television appearances, especially on late-night and alternative programming, introduced them to a new generation.
What might have read as novelty elsewhere became something more lasting. Queer audiences, in particular, embraced the Triplets—their camp sensibility, sincerity, and total commitment turning them into unlikely icons. They weren’t in on the joke—they were the joke, and the brilliance of it.
