Located at 940 St. Louis Street in the French Quarter, Cruz Inn was part of the dense network of gay bars, lounges, clubs, and cruising spots that made New Orleans one of the South’s most important LGBTQ+ destinations.

The French Quarter had long offered queer visitors a degree of freedom that was harder to find elsewhere, and bars like Cruz Inn helped turn that atmosphere into a real community. Locals, bartenders, tourists, performers, and night owls all crossed paths there, especially during Mardi Gras, Southern Decadence, and the endless procession of weekends when the Quarter seemed determined not to sleep.

Cruz Inn belonged to an era when the bar itself was the social network. Before apps and online communities, places like this were where people met friends, found dates, exchanged gossip, learned what was happening around town, and discovered which door to try next.

Its St. Louis Street address placed it right in the middle of one of America’s most distinctive queer nightlife districts, surrounded by the architecture, music, heat, and wonderfully loose sense of time that made New Orleans unlike anywhere else.
