Before the Castro became the iconic neighborhood it is today, Cissy’s Saloon was one of the spots that gave San Francisco its early queer heartbeat. A friendly, no-fuss bar with a loyal crowd, a hardworking jukebox, and plenty of personality, it was the kind of place where newcomers felt welcome and regulars practically had assigned seats.
