Before rainbow pylons and brunch lines, Broadway had bars that felt scrappy, sweaty, and absolutely essential.
Bulldog Road was one of them.
Tucked into Lakeview at 2916 N. Broadway, Bulldog Road ran through the 1990s, when Chicago’s North Side queer scene was growing louder, prouder, and more packed by the weekend.
The ’80s Chicago scene had layers — leather bars, disco holdovers, emerging house music energy — and Bulldog Road fit right into that mix. A place where Broadway felt like its own little world before corporate Pride banners and big-box development.
