Before Boston’s nightlife went glossy, there was Buddies — a no-frills gay bar where the lights were low, the music was loud, and the crowd was family. Tucked near Boylston Street, Buddies was equal parts neighborhood hangout and wild weekend escape — a place where regulars mixed with travelers, and everyone found someone to lean on (or up against).
From drag shows to dart nights, it was homegrown queer Boston at its best: scrappy, social, and full of heart.
