Brazos River Bottom, better known as BRB, was Houston’s homegrown answer to the question: what if a honky-tonk was fabulously gay? Opened in the early ’70s, it served up cold drinks, hot two-steps, and a dance floor where leather, denim, and drag all got along just fine. With sawdust on the ground and country tunes in the air, BRB was the kind of place where you could waltz with your date, cheer a campy fundraiser show, and end the night with a belt buckle scuffed from good living.
It wasn’t flashy—but it didn’t need to be. It was real, rowdy, and full of heart. Long after its doors closed, BRB remains a legend in Montrose history.
