For 35 years, 'Bout Time stood as one of Austin's longest-running and most beloved gay bars—a fixture of the city's LGBTQ+ community from 1985 until its closure in 2020.
Opening during the height of Austin's growing queer nightlife scene, 'Bout Time quickly established itself as a welcoming neighborhood bar where everyone seemed to know someone. It wasn't the biggest club in town, nor was it trying to be. Its appeal came from something more enduring: familiarity, community, and the feeling that you could walk in alone and leave having made new friends.
