Blue Moon – Anchorage, Alaska T-Shirt

Long before most people thought of Alaska and “gay bar” in the same sentence, the Blue Moon held its ground as one of Anchorage’s oldest and most legendary queer hangouts. Operating for decades, it became a beacon in the long winters—a bar where drag queens, loggers, service members, night shift workers, and wandering tourists all found a little heat under the same dim lights.

More than just a watering hole, the Blue Moon was a lifeline: a meeting place in a state where visibility could be risky, and community meant everything. Stories swapped across the bar carried entire generations, from the early days of hushed introductions to the celebratory Pride seasons that followed.

As the city evolved, so did its queer heartbeat. The spirit of the Blue Moon didn’t fade — it transformed. The bar eventually became Mad Myrna’s, the high-energy LGBTQ cabaret and nightclub that carries that legacy forward today with drag shows, dance nights, and the same welcoming glow the community leaned on for decades.
