“Beat Me. Bite Me. Whip Me. Fuck Me Like the Dirty Pig That I Am. Cum All Over My Tits and Tell Me That You Love Me Then Get the Fuck Out!” — Classic Punk Tee

Few shirts captured the shock, humor, and deliberate bad taste of early punk quite as efficiently as “Beat Me, Bite Me, Whip Me…”

The slogan appeared in the late 1970s, when punk fashion was built from ripped clothing, fetish wear, offensive graphics, and anything capable of upsetting respectable society. Its escalating list of demands was vulgar, theatrical, and intentionally impossible to ignore—a private fantasy turned into public provocation.

The shirt became closely associated with figures including Joan Jett and Adam Ant, both photographed wearing versions of the design. Punk photographer Eileen Polk was also pictured in one at CBGB, helping place it within the transatlantic punk underground rather than any single band or scene. Surviving photographs date the design to around 1977, at the moment punk was moving between London, Los Angeles, and New York.

Like many classic punk tees, it was not simply meant to look rebellious. It played with sex, power, humiliation, and gender expectations while turning the wearer into both the subject of the joke and the person in control of it. On Joan Jett especially, the slogan took on an added charge: a woman in rock wearing language that was aggressive, explicit, and entirely on her own terms.
