Badd Boys — Fort Lauderdale Gay Club Tee
Badd Boys. Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Good boys need not apply.
Fort Lauderdale has been a gay vacation destination for decades, offering sunshine, beaches, handsome men, and a nightlife scene that knew exactly what its visitors were looking for.
Badd Boys was part of that world, with a name that left very little to the imagination. It belonged to the tradition of gay clubs that embraced masculine attitude, sexual confidence, and the possibility of getting into a little trouble after dark.
South Florida's gay scene developed a personality distinct from Miami's glamorous mega-clubs. Fort Lauderdale offered neighborhood bars, dance clubs, leather hangouts, and a growing network of gay guesthouses and resorts. It was a place where visitors could spend the afternoon by the pool and the evening making entirely different plans.
As nearby Wilton Manors emerged as a major LGBTQ+ destination, the surrounding area's nightlife became an increasingly important part of Florida's gay culture, drawing locals, tourists, and men escaping considerably colder climates.
And there was always something wonderfully direct about a name like Badd Boys. No elaborate explanation, no sophisticated marketing campaign. Just two words, a little attitude, and the suggestion that whatever happened inside probably wasn't going to be discussed at breakfast.
Clubs like Badd Boys are part of a disappearing history of gay nightlife, when bars and clubs weren't just entertainment venues. They were places to find community, meet other men, and enjoy a kind of freedom that wasn't always available elsewhere.
