Released in 1972, Five Fingers of Death (aka King Boxer) helped ignite the worldwide kung fu movie boom, introducing Western audiences to the raw power and mythic intensity of martial arts cinema. Starring Lo Lieh, it became a grindhouse staple and a title burned into pop culture by sheer force of attitude.
Decades later, the film’s legacy was sealed when Quentin Tarantino named his in-film martial arts tournament in Kill Bill “The Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique” — and directly referenced Five Fingers of Death as part of the DNA of his kung fu universe. Tarantino’s obsession with Shaw Brothers cinema, dubbed imports, and revenge mythology traces straight back to this era of blood, honor, and beautifully staged violence.
