Falcon World Gay Guide — Artwork Poster Reprint (1974)
Published in 1974, the Falcon World Gay Guide arrived at a pivotal moment in queer history—post-Stonewall, pre-mainstream—when travel itself became an act of confidence and connection. More than a directory, it was a map of possibility, cataloging bars, clubs, hotels, beaches, and social spaces across cities and countries at a time when reliable information was scarce and safety depended on knowing where you were welcome.
While Bob Damron’s Address Book (first published in 1964) is the most well-known and longest-running of these guides, other publishers and titles also appeared in the 1960s and ’70s, covering a wide range of cities and countries. These guides functioned as navigation tools to help queer people connect with community, safety, and nightlife in an era when homosexuality was criminalized and widely stigmatized.
