Introduced in the early 1980s, it was practically impossible to escape, playing endlessly on television and permanently lodging itself in the brains of an entire generation.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAnd the commercials were magnificent. Smiling children, mountains of toys, brightly colored graphics, and the promise that Toys “R” Us had everything from bicycles to video games. It wasn't a carefully curated boutique or a tasteful little toy shop. It was an enormous fluorescent wonderland of plastic, cardboard, batteries, and pure American consumerism.
